You Aren't Alone...
Each day millions of American's suffer with pain caused by a herniated disc, neck pain, or low back pain. Experts estimate that as many as 80% of the population will experience a back problem at some time in our lives! Most cases of back pain are mechanical or non-organic—meaning they are not caused by serious conditions, such as inflammatory arthritis, infection, fracture or cancer. This means that most people experiencing pain can find relief!
How Can We Help...
Our clinic is excited to offer spinal decompression therapy to aid patients in pain.
Spinal decompression therapy is a non-surgical traction based treatment outcome for herniated or bulging discs in the neck and lower back.
Anyone who has back, neck, arm, or leg pain may be helped by spinal decompression therapy. This therapy may be utilized as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with chiropractic, acupuncture, or medical massage.

How Many Spinal Decompression Sessions Are Needed? Are The Sessions Painful?
The number of sessions needed vary from person to person. Dr. Calvert-Downey understands everyone is unique. It is for this reason that we do not have patients buy a set number of visits even before beginning care. Treatment plans are prescribed in two week intervals, and may be paid in full at the beginning of each week or session-by-session.
In most cases, spinal decompression sessions are completely painless. Most patients find their appointments to be extremely relaxing. In fact, many patients fall asleep while on the decompression table!

Is Spinal Decompression Therapy Effective?
Yes, there have been multiple studies performed over the past several years regarding the effectiveness of spinal decompression.
One study documented by MRI up to 90% reduction of disc herniations in 10 to 14 cases and other studies reports that the majority of herniated disc patients achieved "good" to "excellent" results after spinal decompression therapy.

Are There Conditions Where Spinal Decompression Therapy Is Not Recommended?
Spinal decompression therapy is not recommended for pregnant women, patients who have severe osteoporosis, morbid obesity, or severe nerve damage.
Spinal surgery with instrumentation (screws, metal plates, or "cages") is also contraindicated. However, spinal decompression therapy after bone fusion or non-fusion surgery can be performed after appropriate healing has occurred.

Why Should You Choose Our Clinic For Care?
First and foremost, we pride ourselves on patient-based care. You will spend time with Dr. Calvert-Downey at each and every appointment to track progress and discuss any questions you may have.
Unlike many other clinics that offer decompression therapy, we truly make care reasonable and affordable. We understand that many patients will choose to not begin care if they are presented with a large care plan with costs at $150 or more per session.
Our prices are as follows:
-Initial examination and treatment: $80
-Subsequent Decompression Treatments: $40
-Subsequent Decompression Treatments with Chiropractic Care: $50
In some instances, your insurance company may cover a portion of your fees. Coverage is dependent on individual plans and we are happy to check on your benefits.
Finally, and most importantly, is Dr. Calvert-Downey's certification in spinal decompression therapy. Dr. Calvert-Downey has completed all necessary course work and final examination through the Kennedy Decompression Technique, making her the ONLY doctor in the Des Moines area to hold such a certificate. What does this mean for you? Better results, faster recovery, and peace of mind that you are being cared for with the latest information and technology.
